Ohio River Way ‘Paddlefest 2009’ to Feature Pink Dragon Boat

The Ohio River Way will host its 8th annual “Paddlefest” on the Ohio River June 26 & 27 2009. Three Rivers District Health Department’s Pink Dragon Boat will lead the flotilla of canoes and kayaks on the Ohio River June 27th and Kentucky’s first Breast Cancer Survivor Team will have the Pink Dragon on display on Friday June 26, 2009.. We need volunteers for the 28’ Cancer Awareness Canoe, too.

The mission of the Paddling for Cancer Awareness is to reach out to canoeist, kayakers and others active in outdoor recreation, to stress the importance of early detection through mammograms and other diagnostic tests. In addition, Paddling for Cancer Awareness stresses the value of exercise as an important aspect of healing, and provides a network of support to participating cancer survivors and patients, as well as their families and friends.

Over the past five years the Paddling for Cancer Awareness has taken the Voyager Canoe to Relay for Life events throughout the midwest and to other major paddling events including the Quiet Water Symposium in Lansing, Michigan and Canoecopia in Madison, Wisconsin.
